When Jim Carrey was 15 his dad brought him to a Yuk Yuk’s Comedy club open mic in Ontario and he tanked, horribly. Apparently, he was so bummed out he never wanted to do comedy ever again. His dad worked with him on creating a strong routine, writing, and re-writing, until Jim was stage ready. Needless to say, the hard work paid off. But the bottom line is comedy is hard to come by;...

The Fish That Won’t Die.
I’ve moved on from TV. This year, I’m laying it all on the line and going after the dream of telling one story, at the cost of everything that’s dear and important to me. It’s to help a people that changed my life, and who I truly believe in, and if I can get this story told, properly, I will be firmly reassured that ‘anything can...

The Changing Face of News →
Have been on an odd personal/professional roller coaster. Things have not been the same since Haiti in January. Loads of ups/downs and this year is proving to be life changing.
Along the ride I’ve gotten caught up in photojournalism working on the initial wikileaks report for the Guardian in the UK, and writing/filming/photographing the December cover for Travel and Leisure. On the ride...

Considering our obsession with all the groovy new series out there and the crappy films we care to avoid.
Maybe we’ll see Jack ‘i don’t do tv’ Nickolson in tv someday soon?

'This American Life'
It’s been a while since I’ve logged on to write. I’ve been on the road, but that isn’t an excuse anymore. I’ve learned, watched, and felt a lot of good, and bad TV/Film, so it’s not a lack of things inspiring me. I’m just a little confused by the world around me right now, so it was tough to justify an entry when I don’t really know what to say...

Window Seat… Yes please!
Love it. Imagery, gutsy doco shooting with no permit (I love that specially), using an average cam, holding the shot for the graphics, the JFK reference…its all like butter.
Directed by Coodie from Coodie and Chike (read older posts for these two bad asses). Badu knows what’s up. Twelve thumbs up.
End of a TV/Film staple. →
Sad. I remember Siskel and Ebert and their awesome movie reviews. The two loved movies, and were so passionate in their debates.
I guess we’re left with an iphone app next time we want to know which movie to watch.

With a mountain of Alaska projects to chose from their pilot library (two of which I shot last year and can attest to them being incredible and deserve to be picked up, but won’t) Discovery has pretty much cut a blank check to Sarah Palin to film a reality show about her in Alaska. I can name hundreds of other Alaskan more fit for a series then her. Born and raised, hardcore, gill net...
RIP Margaret Moth.
Her images were always so intense. The best way to describe what Margaret Moth footage is like to one who’s never experienced it, is to read ‘from Beirut To Jerusalem’ by Robert Friedman and then realize this kiwi gal probably filmed all the violence that takes place in that book, and got up close, intimate and personal with the folks delivering the chaos of...

Was told by the networks that I was crazy, that it had been done before and no one would want it.
Should have brought it to ABC.
Now the dumbasses who turned me down, and me, are both broke. Fortunately I’m not the one with the dunce cap.
The end.
ACCIDENTES!
Brilliant!
As a Latin man, I approve!
What I was up to in Haiti.
So here is one of many vignettes to come from the short documentary I was working on. It tackles the human rights of prisoners in Haiti’s overcrowded jails. 80% of the people in haitian prisons are there on pre-trial, have never really been commited of a crime and a huge majority of them are innocents. Furthermore, their conditions breed drug resistant strains of...
