With a mountain of Alaska projects to chose from their pilot library (two of which I shot last year and can attest to them being incredible and deserve to be picked up, but won’t) Discovery has pretty much cut a blank check to Sarah Palin to film a reality show about her in Alaska. I can name hundreds of other Alaskan more fit for a series then her. Born and raised, hardcore, gill net fishing in Clam Gulch wearing nothing but a t shirt and shorts, beer guzzling, gun slinging, seal eating, bear harvesting Alaskan women who know the place better, and have a far more interesting lifestyle and point of view than this woman.
After living up there filming, for as long as I did, I’m pissed that this washed up politician gets the go ahead, and for such an insane amount of money. Discovery sold out.
And before defending discovery over ‘Life,’ yes, it is an amazing series, reminiscent of old Discovery, but it is a BBC series which aired in 2009 in the UK. What you’re watching a re-broadcast overdubbed with Oprah’s voice (David Attenborough is the original narrator).
Discovery is too chicken shit to do a biology show on their own.
